How accurate is our mental image of ourselves?
Reflecting truth is a sound idea, even if familiarization takes some time, on the other side is you, all of you and only you. John H.
The only person on earth whose true face you never see in real time is your own. The result is profound in its significance — within seconds your face stops working and you generally just look at yourself with a highly reduced set of expressions. This constant alteration creates an altered self image, and keeps you from beholding your emotional and spiritual truth: The spark of the Divine that resides within you and comes out through your face and eyes.
Those beautiful windows to your soul have a constant screen and filter in front of them, enough to block out significant aspects of who you are. What has this done to you, what has it done to all of us that we live with such a profound mistake of physical reflection? The True Mirror optically restores your true image from your mirror image, letting you see yourself not just as you look, but as you really are, in real time.
It shows up in our smile, where the light in our eyes is conveying why we are smiling, and is a key element for the smile to be genuine. To really look at yourself in this new mirror, on an average day or perhaps at a time of great joy or great sorrow, can be a complete revelation.
Looking at it every day, meditating with who and what you see, can become a catalyst for spiritual growth and radical self-acceptance. In fact, you may realize some highly critical self-judgements are only visible in the traditional mirror. Your true self is a inherently more beautiful and acceptable being than your constructed self, however that has been formulated.
The backwards mirror and its inauthentic reflection has been a key element in that formulation. You may laugh.

Why You Hate Looking in the Mirror, and How to Accept the Person You See There
Welcome to the department of discarded selfies, a dark place deep inside my phone where dimly lit close-up shots of my face are left to fade away into the cloud. Are my eyelids that droopy? Is my chin that lop-sided?
One mirror is not enough to see yourself as others see you. When you look at a bathroom mirror you see an image of yourself with left and right reversed. If you don't believe it, extend your right hand to shake hands with yourself. The "person" in the mirror extends his or her left hand. A bathroom mirror switches left and right in any image it reflects.
The fear of looking into a mirror and hating your reflection
Some surfaces are so smooth that the light reflected from them is not scattered off in all directions. This can be compared to throwing a ball at a wall. If the wall has a smooth surface then the ball will bounce off the wall in a predictable direction. This will be true of all ball thrown at this wall. Light that is reflected from a very smooth or polished surface such as a mirror or still water is reflected in predictable conditions. The above is another example of a ray diagram where the path of the light is represented by a straight line with an arrow. The fact that rays of light are reflected from a very smooth surface regularly is the reason why we can see ourselves in a mirror. If you look in a mirror, you appear to be behind the mirror but, of course, you are not so what you see is called a virtual image. Children quickly understand this - when we clean our teeth and look in the bathroom mirror, we appear to be behind the mirror but if we excavate the wall we are not there!

A mirror image in a plane mirror is a reflected duplication of an object that appears almost identical, but is reversed in the direction perpendicular to the mirror surface. As an optical effect it results from reflection off of substances such as a mirror or water. It is also a concept in geometry and can be used as a conceptualization process for 3-D structures. In geometry , the mirror image of an object or two-dimensional figure is the virtual image formed by reflection in a plane mirror ; it is of the same size as the original object, yet different, unless the object or figure has reflection symmetry also known as a P-symmetry.
Here’s Why You Look Better in Mirrors Than You Do in Pictures
One might wonder why is it that when you see writing through a mirror that the writing is backwards, but not upside down. Here we try to understand why it is we see objects in reflected from mirrors as we do. When one looks into a mirror it appears as if you are looking through it and seeing the object on the other side. It also seems as if the object is flipped left to right.SEE VIDEO BY TOPIC: Why You Look Better In The Mirror Than In Pictures
Usually the greatest fear after a wild night of partying isn't what you said that you might regret, but how you'll look in your friends' tagged photos. Although you left the house looking like a 10, those awkward group selfies make you feel more like a 5, prompting you to wonder, "Why do I look different in pictures? Are pictures the "real" you or is it your reflection? Have mirrors been lying to us this whole time?? The answer to that is a bit tricky.
When you look at yourself in a mirror, what you see depends on the quality of that mirror. Similarly, our mental images of ourselves help determine how we react to daily highs and lows of life. If we think of ourselves as worthwhile and valued, that quality will come across to other people. Molded by both internal and external forces, our self-image makes a huge difference in how we feel and act. Think about how you would describe yourself to a stranger. Would you emphasize your keen sense of humor or physical features you're fond of? Or would you spend more time on supposed "trouble spots?
Kind of a twisted thing, if you ask me. But look in the mirror I do, and often shake my head at what I see there. How harshly do you judge your own features? How much of your body from the neck up do you try to hide under a comb-over or makeup? We can remove at least some of that judgment from our reflections with — appropriately enough — some self-reflection.

An obsession? Yeah, it is. We look in mirrors because we know others are going to be looking at us, the mirror shows us what people are going to be seeing on the outside. If you are unkind, critical and judgmental towards yourself, you will behave and act in ways that are unkind to yourself.
Seeing Yourself As Others See You
Have you ever wondered why your face looks just a little different in photos than it does reflected in the mirror? The mystery hit me when I was at home one day overanalyzing my face in the mirror and deciding that I looked good enough for a selfie. I probably took about 25 photos and I hated almost every single one. All of a sudden, my nose seemed to be 10 times more crooked than normal, and it was all I could focus on. One major factor is that photos generally show us the reverse of what we see in the mirror.
